Luke is an EX Laker and a born and bred West Coast guy.  Good for him taking advantage of the hype surrounding the Warriors and getting the job he always wanted.  Hopefully the Lakers are down for a full rebuild now that Kobe has retired.    Hiring a Rookie coach should give Jim Buss some breathing room in terms of expectations.  Let’s see what Luke does with a young team.  Good Luck Luke.

Funny Knick fans who didnt want anything to do with Walton are now lamenting the loss of coaching candidate Luke Walton.  It is what it is.

ARATON IS TIED INTO PHIL’S CIRCLE SINCE THE DAYS OF THE KNICKS CHAMPIONSHIPS./

“Speculation abounds that Jackson met with Blatt as a smoke screen, while still being all in on his buddy Rambis. But the internationally accomplished Blatt might actually appeal to Jackson’s longtime deference to being, you know, different.

Going with Blatt would dispel the belief that Jackson is too insular, trapped in his own inner triangle. It would add a defensive-minded coach to the mix while presumptively retaining Rambis as the associate and experienced chieftain of the offense.

Finally, it would be something of a New York-centered public relations coup — an American-born, Israel-relocated Jewish head coach who played college ball at Princeton with Knicks General Manager Steve Mills. There would be at least a front-office partnership in place if Jackson exercised his option to leave after next season.”

WHAT WE LEARNED FROM MELO’S MEDIA TOUR YESTERDAY.

Melo was making the rounds promoting some Gillette sponsored event yesterday.  He did more than a few interviews with select press including, surprisingly, Frank Isola and Dan Patrick, two notorious Knick haters.

A few things we gleaned from ALL the interviews.

  1. MELO hasn’t really been in contact with PHIL about the coaching search.  No more than a casual conversation since the exit interview when Melo said he would like to be part of the process.
  2. MELO wanted Thibs and felt (for whatever reason) that he would have taken a coaching job in New York over a full control job in Minnesota.
  3. Melo wants to be in New York and sign another contract when he can opt out in two years.

While Melo has Full control of HIS situation through a No Trade Clause he seemingly does not have any control over the Knicks coaching search.   If Melo wanted to make a power play for the coach of his choice (clearly it was Thibs) he would have walked into Dolan’s office and made his feelings clear.  If that happened we would never hear about it.  No idea what Dolan would do.
