CONSIDERING THE FACT BURKE REPORTEDLY PASSED ON A DEAL TO OKC IT’S PUZZLING WHY HE WOULD GET CUT SO QUICKLY

JUST THREE DAYS AGO HE WAS TALKING ABOUT MAKING THE ROSTER.. AND HIS RELATIONSHIP WITH NEW SIGNING TIMMAH HARDAWAY.

NOW 17 ON THE ACTIVE ROSTER WITH RAMON SESSIONS AND JARRET JACK STILL ACCOUNTED FOR.  THE KNICKS STILL HAVE A SECOND TWO-WAY CONTRACT TO HAND OUT BEFORE OPENING  NIGHT.  THE KNICKS CAN CARRY 16 PLAYERS FOR THE FIRST 12 GAMES INCLUDING THE SUSPENDED JOAKIM NOAH.

TOUGH PRE SEASON RECORD WISE BUT THERE WERE SOME  BRIGHT SPOTS WORTH MENTIONING.

  1. DAMYEAN DOTSON IS THE REAL DEAL.  THOUGH HE PLAYED SPARINGLY LAST NIGHT AND MADE A FEW ROOKIE MISTAKES THE KID IS AN NBA TALENT ON BOTH ENDS OF THE COURT.  HIS DEFENSIVE INTENSITY IS INFECTIOUS.  AND HE CAN MAKE THE THREE FROM ANYWHERE.
  2. RONNY BAKER HUSTLES AND WORKS HARDER THAN ANYONE.   BAKER MIGHT BE MY NEW FAVORITE KNICK.  THE GUY JUST GOES OUT AND MAKES PLAYS AND MAKES OTHERS BETTER.   WHEN DOTSON AND BAKER WERE ON THE COURT TOGETHER THE PERIMETER DEFENSE WAS FUN TO WATCH.
  3. DOUGIE MCBUCKETS IS ON A MISSION.   HE’S SHOWING HE IS MORE THAN JUST A SPOT UP SHOOTER.  HE MOVES INTELLIGENTLY WITHOUT THE BALL AND CAN GET OUT ON THE BREAK.   HE’S GOING TO BE IN A BATTLE WITH KUZMINSKAS FOR MINUTES ALL SEASON ASSUMING THEY STAY HEALTHY.
  4. JARRET JACK AND RAMON SESSIONS ARE WASHED.   I VALUE MENTORING MORE THAN ANYONE.  BUT THESE TWO GUYS ARE JUST AWFUL.  MANAGEMENT HAS TO SEE IT AND IT MAY BE A LARGE REASON WHY TREY BURKE WAS SIGNED.  NOT REALLY A BRIGHT SPOT BUT IT DOES ALLOW THE YOUNG PLAYERS TO GET MINUTES. – HOPEFULLY.
  5. ENES KANTER IS AN EFFICIENT OFFENSIVE PLAYER.   THIS GUY WAS A ROTATION PLAYER ON A PLAYOFF TEAM LAST YEAR.  HE IS VERY USEFUL AROUND THE RIM AND HIS DEFENSE SEEMS BETTER THAN ADVERTISED.  ENES AND WILLY GOMEZ WILL BE BATTLING FOR MINUTES ALL YEAR.
  6. COURTNEY LEE AND KYLE O’QUINN ARE PROFESSIONALS.   I’M NOT SURE HOW LONG EITHER WILL BE ON THE ROSTER.  BOTH SEEM DESTINED TO BE TRADED TO PLAYOFF BOUND TEAMS AT SOME POINT THIS SEASON.  THANKFULLY BOTH ARE REPLACEABLE GIVEN THE YOUNG PLAYERS THE KNICKS HAVE ASSEMBLED.

ON THE DOWN SIDE THE DEFENSE – FOR THE MOST PART –  DOES NOT LOOK ANY BETTER SINCE WE GOT RID OF THE RESISTANT PLAYERS.   I THINK ONCE WE GET NITTY UP TO SPEED AND PAIR HIM WITH RONNY BAKER AND DAMYEAN DOTSON OUR PERIMETER DEFENSE HAS A CHANCE TO BE ONE OF THE BEST IN THE LEAGUE. SO THAT’S SOMETHING TO WATCH.  LASTLY INJURY CONTINUES TO BE A THORN IN THIS TEAM’S SIDE.   I DONT UNDERSTAND HOW GUYS CAN BE THIS DISABLED FOR THIS LONG WITH SEEMINGLY COMMON INJURIES.    IT IS WHAT IT IS.   PERHAPS THE TEAM IS BEING CAUTIOUS WITH NITTY AND K.P. – WHICH IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO..

SIX DAYS UNTIL SEASON OPENS IN OKLAHOMA.   BOLD PREDICTION – KNICKS WIN AND KP SCORES 30.

LATER THAT DAY./..
